WATCH: Workplace Inclusion

Moving beyond the Day of X, Y and Z

We’ve just had International Women’s Day, equal pay day, and developmental disabilities awareness month, with diversity and autism awareness months coming up. Whilst it’s great to have these calendar moments, authentic inclusion and that sense of belonging come when you move beyond single issues. It starts from the need to acknowledge critical differences in perspectives, backgrounds and experiences.

Purposeful leadership means transforming our organisations. The road ahead towards responsible business will not be easy but it’s certain that no business will survive the tough economic, social, environmental and governance hurdles with a toxic culture. It is exclusion that breeds a lack of confidence and trust and ultimately destroys culture.

In this first video, TPB founder and director Pat Dwyer offers a starting point for activating inclusion in the workplace.

In this second video, Pat Dwyer discusses the importance of inclusive practices being integrated at all levels and in all processes in order to be truly inclusive. This starts from the very beginning of a potential employee’s journey; where, how, and why someone is being hired.

Hint: it even comes down to the words you choose to include in your job advert.

What are some of the best examples you have in your own organisations?

Let’s reflect on how making inclusion real in the workplace really starts with involving employees in the conversation. Leaders need to not just nod and respond but rather listen to hear, and act.

In the third and final video, Pat Dwyer shares some ideas and hopefully a little inspiration as to what that can look like.
